The Centre for Urban and Regional Studies (YTK) at the Aalto University School of Science and Technology is hosting the sixteenth edition of the YTK/IFHP Summer School in Finland. YTK started this programme in 1995 under the auspices of The The International Federation of Housing and Planning (IFHP, founded by Ebenezer Howard in 1913). The course is organised in cooperation with the cities of Helsinki, Turku and Jyväskylä. The Director of the Summer School is Professor Panu Lehtovuori from Estonian Academy of Arts, Tallinn.

The first days of the Summer School are spent in the Helsinki region. This part of the course consists of lectures on Finnish planning, architecture and culture and on the theme of the course. There will also be a full-day presentation on the City of Helsinki, including an excursion to recent planning projects.

In the second part of the Summer School the participants will be divided into two groups and travel to the cities of Turku and Jyväskylä where project planning and workshops will take place. The field work includes analysing the existing conditions of planning area and suggesting innovative and realistic improvements to the environments. Work will be tutored by experienced planners and other experts of Urban Studies and final proposals will be presented to the decision-makers, general public and the press.
